Target 7.A: Integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programmes and reverse the loss of environmental resources.

Target 7.B: Reduce biodiversity loss, achieving, by 2010, a significant reduction in the rate of loss.

Target 7.C: Halve, by 2015, the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.

Target 7.D: Achieve, by 2020, a significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers.

The oil industry in Yemen is extremely important to its GDP since it relies heavily on oil exports. In light of this, there are few safeguards to manage the extraction of oil and refineries are responsible for huge environmental pollution. Rebels in the North and South also constantly attacks pipelines which results in oil spills and severe environmental damage. Due to low government presence in most rural areas, environmental crimes usually go unpunished. UNDP and UNICEF reports that 48% of Yemenis lack access to safe drinking water and 52% of the population does not have access to proper sanitation. This is largely due to the fact 74% of Yemen’s population live in rural areas, far from where running water is available. In order for us to see a reduction in these high percentages, the government will need to spend a large amount of money on reducing the number of rural residents. It will also need to provide more residents with alternative water sources such as wells and manually operate water pumps. Given all the factors listed above, it is safe to say that Yemen will not achieve these target goals, and the overarching goal by 2015.
