Addressing The Environment In The Republic of Yemen​​

The Yemen Water Sector Support Project is an ongoing project by the Yemeni Ministry of Planning & International Cooperation. The current goals of the project are:

 

  • ACCESS TO WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION SERVICES PROVIDED TO ADDITIONAL 700,000 CAPITA IN RURAL AREAS AND ADDITIONAL 220,000 CAPITA IN URBAN AREAS.
  • GROUNDWATER USE FOR AGRICULTURE HAS REDUCED BY 10 MCM PER YEAR BY 2014 INCRITICAL BASINS OF SANA#A, DHAMAR ANDAMRAN.
  • THREE NEW BASINS BENEFITING FROM THE PROJECT HAVE BASIN PLANS; 4 PRIORITY BASINS BENEFITING FROM THE PROJECT HAVE THEIR BASIN PLANS IMPLEMENTED; AND 4 BASINS HAVE BASIN COMMITTEES.
  • PIPED HOUSEHOLD WATER CONNECTIONS THAT ARE BENEFITING FROM REHABILITATION WORKS UNDERTAKEN BY THE PROJECT.
  • NEW PIPED HOUSEHOLD WATER CONNECTIONS THAT ARE RESULTING FROM THE PROJECT INTERVENTION.
  • ​SUPPORT WATER SERVICE PROVIDERS.
  • ​IMPROVED COMMUNITY WATER POINTS CONSTRUCTED OR REHABILITATED UNDER THE PROJECT

​The 20% ($49,599,760) of our budget that was allocated for developing increased water and sanitation will be given to the Water Sector Support Project so that it can be expanded to help more people in rural areas have better access to water and sanitation resources. This will ensure that Yemen will achieve goal # 7 by 2015. ​
